Swim Lessons

The Arne Hanna Aquatic Center offers year-round swim lessons for ages 6 months through adults. Register online or by calling (360) 778-7665.

Program Descriptions

We offer a variety of programs at the Aquatic Center. Offerings include lap swims, American Red Cross swim lessons and training courses, shallow water aerobics, and deep water running. We also have preschool, family, and open swims for people to play and enjoy the facility.

Swimmers will share lanes by circle swimming. Lifeguards may move swimmers to match the speed of other swimmers if necessary. We allow up to 8 swimmers per lane. Please refer to our Lap Lane Availability (PDF) document for the number of lanes available throughout the day.

One lane is provided to do therapeutic exercises at your own pace. The combination of low-impact and water resistance helps to increase strength and range of motion as you recover from injuries or surgery. Max 8 participants. Please see our Lap Lane Availability (PDF) for times.

DWR is a great, zero-impact exercise activity done on your own by simulating running movements with your arms, legs, and body position. Floatation belts and ankle cuffs are available for participants to use. The pool may be shared with other programs during DWR times. Max 12 participants.

40 participants per 60-minute class. Our aerobics instructors design their classes to focus on High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), endurance training, or a combination of both. Participants complete an assortment of exercises that use the natural resistance of the water to increase their strength and conditioning.

All four of our pools will have space available to swim and play. The waterslide and diving board are open during these swims. Please note, that riders must be at least 4 feet tall to go down the waterslide. Divers and swimmers wanting to go into water deeper than chest depth must pass a swim test. Max 150 participants.
Please note: The waterslide will be closed during Open Swims if the temperature is below freezing, 32oF, before the start of the swim.

Playtime in the pools. The diving board is available. No waterslide during this swim. Max 100 participants.

Families can play, splash, and practice their swimming skills in the instructional pool. We will have lifejackets, pool floats, and pool toys available for kids to use. The pool may be shared with other programs during Preschool Swim times. Max 40 participants.

Our 45-minute Low-Intensity Aerobics class will focus on light to moderate aerobics activity, balance, range of motion, and strengthening. Max 24 participants.

An opportunity to bring your kayak to practice rolls and turns in warm water and lifeguards for safety. Max 6 kayaks. Must provide your own kayak.

Our Facility

The instructional pool includes a beach entry at one end and the exit of our 135-foot water slide into the three-and-a-half feet deep opposite the beach entry. This pool is 89 degrees; it’s great for younger kids learning to swim and adapting to the water.

The lap pool is 25 yards long by eight lanes wide, with depths from 3 feet to 6 feet as you travel down the lane. We have a separate dive tank, 6-12 feet deep, with a one-meter competition springboard. The lap pool and dive tank are both 83 degrees.

The 100-degree temperature is perfect for relaxing after a workout, stretching, or doing your therapy exercises. This pool has jets for relaxation. Our hydrotherapy pool is for those 16 years of age and older.

Available for participants to use while in the facility. Lockers are for day use only.

The shower program at Arne Hanna has moved, effective July 29, 2023. All users will be welcome to pay to use the facility for a variety of aquatic programs but free showers will no longer be available. For more information, please visit the City’s Hygiene Resources page.
