The public will have the opportunity to comment on theses recommendations prior to City Council review.

Participants imagined what Bellingham’s Town Square could look like in this hands-on workshop that applied the Placemaking approach to several example public plaza locations downtown.

Street as Public Places – September 20, 2012

This hands-on workshop invited exploration of opportunities for the State Street corridor, and how the public street space could best be used to serve the people of the downtown district.

March 14, 2013 – WWU Planning students further explored ideas for how to transform the State Street corridor as part of the Urban Transitions Studio, a partnership between Huxley College, Sustainable Connections and the City of Bellingham. This analysis will be used to further identify opportunities to improve the safety, vitality, and livelihood of this section of downtown. The full student report can be viewed here.
