Planning Academy

It is in the City's interest that our neighborhood plans be consistent with the Comprehensive Plan and represent the values and priorities of the neighborhoods. Therefore, the City held a Planning Academy to provide neighborhood  leadership with the  knowledge, skills and abilities to develop and propose comprehensive plan, neighborhood plan and development code amendments for consideration by the City.

Planning Academy I for Neighborhoods (2006)

The first Planning Academy happened in Fall of 2006 and was designed to familiarize neighborhood representatives with Bellingham's planning and regulatory code structure. These sessions provided the foundation for neighborhoods to embark on priority neighborhood code amendment proposals for submittal to the city.

Planning Academy II: Green Bellingham - Achieving Infill, Enhancing Character (2008)

Planning Academy II was held April 30, May 7, May 21 and May 28, 2008, and involved community members in the exploration and formation of an Infill Housing Toolkit of clearly defined alternative housing types that may be integrated into appropriate areas of existing and new neighborhoods.  Bellingham can improve opportunities for home ownership and reduce sprawl by increasing the diversity of housing types that are available.
