Containers stored outside must have
lids to prevent rainwater from filling and causing contents to overflow onto
the ground. Some containers are not well sealed, and rainwater "washes" the
contents away causing pollutants to drip or drain out of cracks or holes.
Waste containers must be able to securely confine their contents and must
have tight-fitting lids. Keeping these containers under cover and in a tub
or on a spill pallet designed to catch drips is a good measure to help
prevent stormwater contamination.
