City and the Downtown Bellingham Partnership announce new survey

Comprehensive survey will identify priorities for downtown district

May 13, 2019 - by Allayana Darrow, Communications Intern

The City of Bellingham and the Downtown Bellingham Partnership are requesting community feedback on priorities for downtown Bellingham through the launch of their 2019 Downtown Survey. Developed as a collaboration between the two organizations, the survey asks members of the community to share their opinions of the district as well as ideas and preferences for new amenities and growth.

The survey, which is now live and will remain available until May 31, invites respondents to rate the quality of downtown housing, amenities, landscaping, safety and more.  Open-ended questions offer respondents the opportunity to provide suggestions and ideas, while specific questions will be asked based on each respondent’s relationship to downtown (such as business owners and those living downtown). The survey can be completed in as little as 10 minutes and is being rolled out both online and through in-person tabling in different areas of the city.

“Almost everyone in our community interacts with downtown, but they do so in different and diverse ways,” Mason Luvera, communications director for the Downtown Bellingham Partnership, said. “Knowing different perspectives on what those in our community want to see happen downtown and what they value most in the district is key to our advocacy and priorities.”

Results from the survey will be used to help inform the Downtown Bellingham Partnership and the City of Bellingham as plans for programming, events and development are made.

“Results from the 2011 survey drove the conversation about what needed to happen downtown,” Senior Planner Darby Cowles said.  “We look forward to hearing from the community about what is and isn’t working well today so we can adjust priorities moving forward, if needed.”

All downtown visitors and Bellingham residents are encouraged to offer their feedback through the survey. Visit www.cob.org/downtownsurvey to learn more about the project , or Click here to take the survey online.
