City installing new floats at Bloedel Donovan boat ramp

Boat ramp access may be limited May 18, 2018 – May 25, 2018

May 17, 2018 - by Gina Austin, Project Engineer

The City of Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department is installing new floats at the Bloedel Donovan Park boat ramp. This facility is one of only two public boat launches on Lake Whatcom and the City's primary checkpoint for Aquatic Invasive Species boat inspections. The existing floats have been in service for over 35 years and need to be replaced. The new docks and piling will provide a level-walking surface and greatly improve everyone's boat launching experience for years to come. This project is partially funded by a Boating Facility Grant through the State of Washington Recreation and Conservation Office.

Access will be limited while local contractors set up construction fence, remove the old floats and install new ones. The boat launch area will be restricted to one lane while construction is underway. This project is expected to be complete before Memorial Day weekend.
