The Bellingham City Council is seeking applicants for its at-large position after the resignation of Councilmember Roxanne Murphy. The application period officially opened following City Council’s passage of a resolution on September 10 establishing the appointment process to fill the vacancy. The resolution, once signed, will be available on the City’s website.

The vacancy will be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term, which ends November 2019. Please send application materials to ccmail@cob.org or to City Council, 210 Lottie Street, Bellingham, WA 98225. Applicants are welcome to present additional written materials with their application articulating their qualifications for the position, including relevant civic and community experience. The application period closes September 25 at 5:00 p.m.

To be eligible to hold office, City Charter states a person must be a registered voter and resident of the City for one year prior to being appointed. No City elected officer can hold any other office or employment within City government.

City Council will hold a special meeting on October 1 at 6 p.m. in City Council Chambers. During this meeting, each applicant will be given three minutes to present their qualifications, after which time, the Council will adjourn to closed executive session to discuss. Subsequent to executive session, the Council will vote to appoint the interim councilmember.

The special meeting will be televised on BTV and live-streamed at cob.org/meetings.
