Mayor’s Neighborhood Advisory Commission

​​​Purpose

The Mayor’s Neighborhood Advisory Commission (MNAC) is composed of one primary and one alternate representative of each of the neighborhoods of the city, typically recommended to the Mayor by the neighborhood association.

The primary purpose of the MNAC is for:

  1. The Mayor to communicate with and listen to the representatives of neighborhood associations on topics that may be of interest to neighborhoods;
  2. Representatives of neighborhood associations to communicate their interests and concerns to the City administration; and
  3. Members to serve as a conduit for timely, accurate information about City programs and services through various actions including reporting and/or forwarding to their membership information provided by the City.

The MNAC may elect to review proposed changes to the City’s comprehensive plan and neighborhood plans and provide comment on those proposed changes for the Mayor to consider. The Commission shall meet at least ten times per year and shall keep minutes of its meetings.

Time Requirements

Meetings are typically held on the third Wednesday of each month. Work outside meetings includes keeping in touch with neighborhood residents. This outside works takes approximately eight hours per month. See Meetings and Events for currently scheduled meetings.

Membership

The board consists of one representative and one alternate for each recognized neighborhood in the city of Bellingham. Members are appointed by the Mayor. Terms are for two years, and limited to two terms. The Mayor has the authority to increase the membership of the Commission by recognizing additional neighborhoods. No compensation is paid to members of this Commission. Mayor appoints members that have been recommended by the neighborhood associations.
