Mahogany Street - Northend Regional

Project Overview: ES-0489

Construction of a  new 3,200 foot (.6 mile) east-west  arterial, Mahogany Avenue, between Pacific Highway and Northwest Drive.  Mahogany will add much-needed multimodal arterial access to  land that has been zoned for commercial and industrial development since West Bakerview was constructed in the mid-1990's.  The arterial will include bike lanes, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and street lighting.

The new Mahogany-Arctic arterial streets will provide direct access to major new economic development projects.  The construction of the arterial will provide better traffic and freight circulation and access, will take pressure off of West Bakerview Road as the only east-west corridor, and will complete the sidewalk, bicycle lane and arterial street network in this part of Bellingham.

This project will be constructing a new roadway through an undeveloped right-of-way.

Update: May 218

Accomplishments:  Under Construction

Next Milestones:  Finish intersection work at NW and Mahogany.  Install all underground utilities.  Work through all of the federal requirements for construction, especially all of the UDBE requirements.
