Shuksan Meadows Park Playground

Description

The new playground equipment is open for use by pre-school and school-aged children. Also recently installed are a picnic table and park bench. The schedule for the installation of upgraded drinking fountain and park lighting is to be determined.

Located adjacent to Shuksan Middle School on Bellingham School District property this .7-acre Shuksan Meadows Neighborhood Park was identified by staff and the neighborhood as a priority for improvement.

The project objective was to replace the old playground equipment with new, safe, and accessible fun playground equipment, while optimizing the small space with unique play opportunities not found in other nearby locations in the neighborhood (Birchwood, Little Squalicum, Maplewood open space, Shuksan Middle School)

The existing playground equipment, installed in 1994 was weathered, in poor condition and didn’t comply with current playground safety and accessibility standards.

The park is located in a residential multifamily – residential Area 3 and low-income neighborhood, is maintained by the City of Bellingham.
