Bloedel Donovan Park Boat Launch is a development project for replacing an aging, damaged boating facility at one of Bellingham's most popular parks.
The existing facility was originally built with Boating Facility Grant funds in 1983 and is in need of replacement. The project is located on Lake Whatcom at an existing city park. Bloedel Donovan Park has many park amenities including parking, restrooms, playground, community buildings, beaches, and dog off leash area.
Lake Whatcom includes nearly 5,000 acres of surface water area. The Lake is nearly 10 miles long and 1 mile wide making it one of the largest recreational lakes in Whatcom County and 7th largest lake in the state. During peak use, over 100 motorized boats a day use this facility. The park and boat launch provide the only public access to Lake Whatcom within the City limits. This facility is one of only two public boat launches on the Lake and the City's primary check point for Aquatic Invasive Species boat inspections.
