Pedestrian Overpass from S. State Street to Boulevard Park

Boulevard Pedestrian Overpass Removal and Utility Improvements

Boulevard Overpass Structure is closed to the public due to structural damage.  Please use detour route. The structure was declared unsafe and closed to the public in February of 2016.

The wooden stairs and overpass footbridge were constructed in the 1970s to provide pedestrian access over the train tracks to Boulevard Park from S. State Street.  At the time it was built there was no other access. This access is now provided with the at-gate crossing along the South Bay Trail.

City officials ask that pedestrians use a different route.  Boulevard Park can be accessed via the South Bay Trail at Wharf Street, from a pathway adjacent to the pedestrian overpass on S. State Street, from Taylor Dock at Taylor Avenue and 10th Street or from Bayview Drive off of S. State Street.

The existing overpass structure currently supports all utilities into the park. The overpass will be permanently removed. New underground service lines will be installed through the park and up Bayview Drive. These improvements will result in predictable, high quality services to the park for decades to come.
