The What-Comm 911 Center, located in the City of Bellingham, serves as the answering point for all 911 calls placed within Whatcom County.  What-Comm processes over 210,000 calls per year.  Of those, over 140,000 are 911 calls.  In addition, What-Comm dispatches and monitors 6 local law enforcement agencies; Bellingham Police, Whatcom County Sheriff's Office, Ferndale Police, Everson Police, Lummi Nation Police, and the Nooksack Tribal Police.

What-Comm is staffed by 25 public safety dispatchers and 5 support staff.    Our dispatchers are dedicated professionals who deal with everything from parking problems, to domestic violence, to suicidal callers.  They receive a full year of training and must be prepared to deal with any situation.  Our dispatchers work unseen in the background, but they are always ready to serve our community as the first contact for those in need of emergency services.
