Thank you for your understanding. ​</strong><br></p><p><br></p><p>First-time volunteers and seasoned change-makers alike are invited to join the City of Bellingham's annual work party in recognition of the 50<sup>th</sup> anniversary of Earth Day, a day that more than one billion people celebrate worldwide. The event will take place Saturday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Maritime Heritage Park. Volunteers will support the growth of native plants by applying mulch and removing invasive plants, which compete with native species for moisture, sunlight, nutrients and space. <br></p><p></p><p><strong>When</strong>: Saturday, April 18, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. </p><p><strong>Where</strong>: Maritime Heritage Park, 1600 C Street. Sign in near the fishery.</p><p><strong>Travel by bus or bike</strong>: Several Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) bus routes stop near Maritime Heritage Park. The park is also accessible by bike. Find your bus route using WTA's <a href="https://schedules.ridewta.com/">online trip planner</a> or your bike route by visiting <a href="http://www.cob.org/bike">www.cob.org/bike</a>.</p><p><strong>Travel by car</strong>: Parking is available in the lot at the end of C Street and along C Street. Additional street parking is also available nearby.<br></p><p>This event will include outreach booths from community partners with information and family-friendly activities. The end of the event will include a celebration of the great work accomplished by volunteers, with a closing statement from Bellingham Mayor Seth Fleetwood and optional educational tours of Whatcom Creek and the fish hatchery with staff from the City and Bellingham Technical College (BTC). <br></p><p>Tools, gloves, and Woods coffee are provided. Please wear long pants, closed-toed shoes and weather appropriate clothing. Don't forget your water and a snack.<br></p><p>All ages, abilities, and experience levels welcome.
