                            Wetlands_1992_Inventory is a polygon featureclass with contains wetland boundaries mapped during a 1992 City of Bellingham reconnaissance survey. The area of coverage includes the geographic extent of the City Limits of Bellingham in 1992 (Generally south of Bakerview Rd). Attributes include wetland ID, classification code, classification, and type
                          

                            The purpose of the wetland inventory is to identify the general location and character of the wetlands with the City of Bellingham. The inventory is for orientation purposes only and is not intended to represent jurisdictional wetland boundaries. Site specific wetland studies will be required to identify the precise location of the wetland boundaries. The intent of this inventory is to allow the City of Bellingham to incorporate identified wetlands into its planning and/or permitting processes
                          

                            In 1992, the City of Bellingham hired a wetland inventory team, and Shapiro & Associates, Inc. staff developed a training workshop to ensure the inventory was conducted in a consistent manner. Field technicians reviewed existing wetland and soils inventories, and interpreted aerial photographs. Both color infrared (1" = 2,000') and black and white orthophotographs (1" = 200') were used. Through field surveys, data was collected from over 300 potential wetland areas to determine whether each site met the criteria to be identifited as a wetland based on vegetation, soils, and hydrology. If an area was designated as a wetland, the team determined physical and biological characteristics (habitiat, hydrology, land use, and cultural/aesthetics). A final report was then prepared detailing the methods and the results of the field work, and maps were prepared depicting the wetlands found within the project area
