Sunnyland Neighborhood Plan Amendment

Gene Knutson asked Jeff Thomas, Planning Director, when the Sunnyland Neighborhood Plan Amendment would be initiated. Mr. Thomas explained that the department was hoping to finish work regarding accessory dwelling units that could be of benefit to the process. He assured Council the plan amendment would come forward to Council this year.

Rail Car Safety Resolution

Terry Bornemann reported that he and Council Member, Jack Weiss, had attended a National League of Cities conference meeting regarding railroad safety issues. He noted recent disastrous rail car accidents in the US and Canada.

TB/ML MOVED TO DIRECT STAFF TO DRAFT A RESOLUTION CALLING ON CONGRESS TO REQUIRE INCREASED SAFETY REQUIREMENTS FOR RAIL CARS CARRYING FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS. The motion carried 7-0.

Brian Heinrich confirmed the draft resolution would be ready for a Council worksession on January 27th.
