AB19839 1. Bellingham School District [BSD] Board Community Linkage Meeting with the Bellingham City Council and Mayor
School Board Director, Kelly Bashaw, explained Community Linkages and presented the Bellingham Promise which guides BSD policy governance. Council Members and the Mayor were asked:
Members of Council expressed a desire for the City to have more involvement in the School District's Capital Facilities planning. Council was informed that the BSD Capital Facilities Task force is working on a 10-year facilities plan and have met with City staff to plan the coordination of their efforts. When the evaluation is completed, the Task Force will present its recommendations to BSD Board and to the Mayor and City Council.
There was discussion regarding the role of the Council's liaison to the BSD Board currently held by Cathy Lehman. It was determined that there should be further clarification by the Council for how the liaison can achieve the information exchange that would most optimally serve both organizations. The suggestion was made that all Council liaisons should report to the full Council regularly.
There was dialog about the BSD participation in the Community Health Improvement Plan [CHIP] and the District's plan for potentially building a centralized kitchen and providing locally made food for students.
Council Members expressed their appreciation to the BSD Board and Dr. Baker for the invitation to this Linkage Meeting.
DISCUSSION AND INFORMATION ONLY
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:20 PM.
Seth Fleetwood, Council President
