What
is the National Night Out Against Crime? It is held on the first Tuesday of August and it is a time for communities to come together, build relationships and stand united against crime. All neighborhoods are encouraged to have an outside event that evening. A going away party for the criminals... if you will! The focus is making Bellingham a safer place to live.
The 26th Annual NNO, which was held on Tuesday, August 4th, 2009, involved 15,000 communities from all 50 states, US Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. In all, a record 37 million people- including citizens, law enforcement agencies, community crime and drug prevention groups, businesses, Federal and state agencies, civic and youth organizations, and the military- participated in NNO 2009.
In Bellingham-NNO 2009, we hosted over 40 public events throughout the 24 city neighborhoods, with attendance reaching 1810 citizens.
