Alternative to Outdoor Burning
Composting
Composting is the natural process of turning organic material, like
leaves, weeds and food scraps, into a rich soil conditioner. Compost
is food for the earth, it keeps plants and soil healthy and it's easy to do.
Chipping
- Chippers are more affordable if neighbors or friends get together to
share the cost and use.
- Brush, pruning, land-clearing debris, and wood waste from
construction or demolition sites can all be turned into usable wood
chips.
- Wood chips make excellent mulch, and can also be a substitute for
decorative bark, which protects the soil and helps keep weeds at bay.
Chips can also be used to line garden paths and trails, provide a soft
landing under playground equipment, or as bedding for animals.
Recycling / Reuse
Much of the waste generated at home, work, or construction and demolition
sites can be minimized through better planning, reuse, or recycling.
Recycling and reuse opportunities are available in our area for wood,
building scraps, pallets, paper, cardboard, and some types of plastic.
