Paramedics

The City of Bellingham administers and operates the Whatcom Medic One program.  Whatcom Medic One is the countywide advanced life support (ALS) paramedic ambulance transport program.  This program is governed by the Whatcom County Ambulance Advisory Board, comprised of elected officials from city and county governments.

Four paramedic units provide ALS response and patient transportation to the hospital if necessary throughout Whatcom County.  Two units are located in Bellingham, and two are located in the northwestern and central county areas.

Basic life support (BLS) medical care and transport is performed by several of the county fire districts, supported by Medic One paramedic units if necessary.

Whatcom Medic One charges a fee for service to assist in offsetting operational expenses.  It is also supported by a 1/10th of one percent sales tax and general fund contributions by the City of Bellingham and Whatcom County.
