  5. Sidestroke – 50 Yards (WSI Manual p.p. 198 & 199)
  6. Butterfly – 50 Yards (WSI Manual p.p. 198 & 199)
  7. Front Crawl Open Turn (SWS p.p. 112)
  8. Sidestroke Open Turn (SWS p.p. 113)
  9. Backstroke Open Turn (SWS p.p. 113)
  10. Front Flip Turn (SWS p.p. 114)
  11. Breaststroke Turn (SWS p.p. 117)
  12. Butterfly Turn (SWS p.p. 119)
  13. Backstroke Flip Turn (SWS p.p. 121)
  14. Demonstrates Lane Etiquette (SWS p.p. 189 – 190)
    • Choosing the right lane, circle swimming, touching the feet, passing, etc.

    • Using the clock for send offs.
  16. Uses a pull buoy (SWS p.p. 258)
    • Using the buoys to isolate the arms.

    • Using the fins to work the legs, move faster, etc.

    • Using paddles to work the arms, fine tune hand positions, etc.

    • Warm ups, stretching, aerobic set, muscular development sets, cool downs
  20. Demonstrates various training techniques (SWS p.p. 200 - 202)
    • Over distance, fartlek, interval sets, repetition, sprints, straight sets, negative split sets, descending sets, ladders, pyramids, broken swims, dry-land training.
  21. Calculates heart rate (SWS p.p. 180-181)
    • Can use the pace clock to find and calculate their heart rate.
    • Can find the calculate heart rate range for themselves. (SWS p.p. 181)
  22. Applies principle of water exercise (SWS p.p. 190 – 191)
    • Buoyancy, resistance, speed, and type of movement.
  23. Exit Skill I
    • Swim 500 yards continuously using the strokes in the following order: front crawl 100 yards, back crawl 100 yards, breaststroke 50 yards, elementary backstroke 50 yards, sidestroke 50 yards, butterfly 50 yards, and choice of stroke 100 yards.
  24. Exit Skill II Coopers 12 Minute Swimming Test (SWS p.p. 189)
    • Student swims for twelve minutes nonstop on the first and last day and compares the number of laps. Unfortunately, the chart on page SWS p.p. 189 only goes down to 13 years of age
