Bob 5 Times
Student will exhale while submerged and inhale when they are
above water.
The bobs need to be performed in a continuous rhythmic pattern.
Recover an Item
Student must recover a submerged object with eyes open
underwater at least three times.
Front Float & Recovery - 5 Seconds
Student must show comfort as they remain in a front float
position with face in the water.
Front Glide – 2 Body Lengths
Student must be in a streamlined position with their face in the
water.
Jellyfish Float – 5 Seconds
Student will float in a face down position with arms and legs
relaxed.
Back Float & Recovery - 5 Seconds
Student must show comfort as they remain in a back float
position.
Back Glide – 2 Body Lengths
Student must be in a streamlined position.
Change Direction and Position
Student must change direction of travel while walking or
paddling.
Roll Over
Student rolls over from front to back.
Student rolls over from back to front.
Treading Water
Student will explore different arm and leg movements in the
water.
Swim on Front – 15 Feet
Students must propel themselves through the water using any
combination of arms and legs.
Finning Arms on Back – 10 Feet
Students will explore finning arms and propel themselves through
the water.
Sculling Arms on Back – 10 Feet
Students will explore sculling arms and propel themselves
through the water.
Swim on Back – 15 Feet
Students must propel themselves through the water using any
combination of arms and legs.
Leg Actions on Side w/ Support 5 Feet
Student uses alternating leg action while being supported.
Student uses simultaneous leg action while being supported.
Combined Stroke on Back w/ Support
Student uses any combination or arms and legs to move 5 feet
with support.
Alternating Legs on Side w/ Support 5 Feet
Students will propel themselves forward while lying on their
side.
Simultaneous Legs on Side w/ Support – 5 Feet
Students will propel themselves forward while lying on their
side.
Discuss Personal Water Safety
Be Cool, follow the rules.
Always swim with a buddy in a supervised area.
Move in Water with PFD
Students must demonstrate how to don their PFD properly, enter
the water, and them move in any fashion they wish.
Recognize a Swimmer in Distress
Student should be able to recognize a swimmer in distress.
Discuss How to Get Help
Student should know whom they should turn to for help including
lifeguards, parents, and 911.
Exit Skill I
Student will step from side into chest deep water, move into a
front float for 5 seconds, roll over to a back float, return to
standing position, then move back to a back float for 5 seconds, and
return to a standing position.
Exit Skill II
Student will push off and swim using a combination of arm and
leg actions for 15 feet on the front; push off and swim using a
combination of arm and leg actions for 15 feet on the back.
