Completion Requirements for Preschool Level 2

  1. Submerge entire head, 3 seconds
    • Student must be comfortable being completely submerged for 3 seconds.
    • Encourage them to blow bubbles throughout.
  2. 5 Bobs
    • Student must fully submerge 5 times in a rhythmic manner.
    • Student must fully exhale underwater and inhale above the water.
    • They may blow bubbles through their nose or mouth.
  3. Open eyes & pick up object, 3 times
    • In shallow water the student must submerge their face and recover an item with their hand.
    • The student must open their eyes underwater to find the object. Goggles cannot be used for this exercise.
  4. Front float and recovery, 3 seconds
    • Student must be in a prone position with their faces in the water for 3 seconds without support.
    • Student must be relaxed throughout the float.
    • Student must recover on their own.
  5. Back float and recovery, 3 seconds
    • Student must be in a supine position with their ears in the water for 3 seconds without support.
    • Student must be relaxed throughout the float.
    • Student must recover on their own.
  6. Jellyfish float, 3 seconds
    • Student must float with their face in the water and their arms and legs dangling.
    • The student must be completely relaxed and blowing bubbles. No holding their breath.
  7. Front glide, 3 feet
    • Student must be in a semi-streamlined position with their face in the water throughout the exercise.
    • The kick must provide good propulsion.
  8. Back glide, 3 feet
    • Student must be in a semi-streamlined position with their ears in the water throughout the exercise.
    • The kick must provide good propulsion.
  9. Swim on front with support, 5 feet
    • Student must make forward progress using any form of kicking and arm action.
    • The face must be in the water.
    • Support can be the instructor or a piece of equipment.
  10. Discuss water safety rules
    • Discuss pool rules such as running, showering, etc.
    • Talk about not diving (going head first) into shallow water.
  11. Discuss how to get help
    • Discuss or practice calling for help and who they could get help from.
  12. Jump from side with assistance
  13. Exit water safely using ladder or side
    • Students must be able to climb out of the pool on the side or use a ladder in deep water.
