Completion Requirements for Parent / Child B

  1. Jump from Side
    • Child jumps into the water from a standing position with assistance from parent.
    • Child jumps into the water from a standing position without assistance from parent.
  2. Explore the Pool
    • Child tries to touch the bottom of the pool at 1’, 2’, and 3’ depths.
  3. Working on Cues  (not ARC)
    • Child responds to simple cues to respond such as 1-2-3-Go.
  4. Front Float with Assistance
    • Child explores floating in a prone position with or without assistance from parents or equipment.
    • Child’s face may be in or out of the water.
  5. Front Glide with Assistance
    • Child explores gliding in a prone position with assistance from parent or equipment.
    • Instructor passes child to parent.
    • Parent passes child to wall.
    • Child’s face may be in or out of the water.
  6. Kick on Front with Assistance
    • Child flutter kicks on front with assistance from parent.
    • Child kicks on front with a floatation device.
  7. Reach and Pull Arms with Assistance (ARC calls it Arm Action)
    • Child explores alternating or simultaneous arm movement in a prone position with assistance of parent or equipment.
  8. Swim on Front with Assistance
    • Child moves forward in a front position using arms and legs in any format with assistance from parent or equipment.
  9. Back Float with Assistance
    • Child explores floating in a supine position with assistance from parents or equipment.
    • Child’s ears may be in or out of the water.
  10. Back Glide with Assistance  (was called back passes)
    • Child explores gliding in a supine position with assistance from parent or equipment.
    • Child’s ears may be in or out of the water.
  11. Kick on Back with Assistance
    • Child flutter kicks on back with assistance from parent.
    • The child can still bicycle kick.
  12. Arms on Back with Assistance
    • Child explores alternating or simultaneous arm movement in a supine position with assistance of parent or equipment.
  13. Swim on Back with Assistance
    • Child moves forward in a supine position using arms and legs in any format with assistance from parent or equipment.
  14. Blowing bubbles
    • Child explores blowing bubbles underwater with mouth and nose submerged.
    • Child explores bobbing.
  15. Underwater Exploration
    • Child explores submerging mouth, nose, and eyes underwater.
    • Child explores opening eyes underwater and picking up a submerged object.
  16. Rolling from Back to Front
    • Child explores changing from back to front with or without assistance from parents.
  17. Rolling from Front to Back
    • Child explores changing from front to back with or without assistance from parents.
  18. Using a Lifejacket  (was called Intro to PFDs)
    • Parents are given information about how to properly choose a US Coast Guard approved PFD.
    • Parents put a US Coast Guard approved PFD on the child.
  19. Discuss Basic Safety Rules
    • Never go near the water without an adult supervision.
    • Never swim without an adult supervision.
    • Know how to call for help.
