The Subarea Plan, as well as the related development regulations were adopted in 2008.
The City Council adopted new Design Standards for urban villages in November, 2009. This Ordinance (pdf) was passed so that, rather than creating different design standards for each urban village, there would be just one set of design guidelines and standards that would apply to Samish Way and all future urban villages. The new rules focus on creating high quality pedestrian environments that area safe, inviting, comfortable and attractive. If a special standard is warranted for a particular urban village, a standard will be incorporated into the development regulations for that particular village and reviewed concurrently under the new design review process.
