Shoreline Master Program

The City of Bellingham is updating its current Shoreline Master Program (SMP). The City began this process in November 2005. The review by the Planning Commission is complete and the 2007 DRAFT SMP is now under review by the Bellingham City Council. City Council Review Underway:

1st Public Hearing held July 16, 2007; Council voted to hold the hearing open and schedule additional work sessions as noted below. To view materials for these work sessions, see the agenda packet for these dates posted here. Please see the list of issues raised at the 1st public hearing (PDF).

• Work-session #1: Monday, August 6, 2007; Public Access, signage, roads, piers/floats in Marine Waters
• Work-session #2: Monday, September 17, 2007; Nonconformity and Hold Restoration Harmless. Staff will bring back for review on Monday October 15, 2007
• Work-session #4: Monday, October 15, 2007; Re-review of Nonconformity and Hold Restoration Harmless as well as CAO / SMP Interface
• Work-session #5: Monday, November 5, 2007, New Whatcom
