
The E. Bakerview/ James Street Annexation includes 635 acres, and
will be known as the King Mountain Neighborhood. The area is adjacent to
Bellingham city limits in the Northern Urban Growth Area and shares a common
boundary with the Mount Baker Neighborhood on the east and south and with
the Meridian Neighborhood on the west. Bellingham's Urban Growth Area
boundary forms the northern annexation boundary. East Bakerview Road extends
from the city limits on the west through the site to the city limits on the
east, generally dividing the annexation area into two sub-areas, one north
of East Bakerview Road which includes King Mountain and one to the south.
James Street extends from the city limits on the south to its terminus at
the top of King Mountain. Kellogg Road and Telegraph Road extend from the
city limits on the west and connect with James Street.
The City of Bellingham owns 6.4 acres on King Mountain for a possible future
park.
March 6 - 20, 2009: A census was conducted of this area.
March 6, 2009: Effective date of annexation to the City of Bellingham, WA.
December 8, 2008: The Bellingham City Council approved the annexation request.
March 27, 2008 (rescheduled from Jan. 10, 2008): The Whatcom County Boundary Review Board will hold a public hearing at 7:00 PM at King Mountain Church, 330 E Kellogg, Bellingham, WA.
Oct. 16, 2006: Bellingham City Council approved
Resolution 2006-41, thus initiating the annexation process.
Sept. 25, 2006: Bellingham City Council held a public
meeting to consider the annexation petition.
July 27, 2006: Owners of property in the proposed annexation area submitted the required 10 percent petition for annexation to the City of Bellingham.
April 26, 2006: A neighborhood meeting was held at the King Mountain Church, attended by more than 100 property owners and residents from the area and surrounding areas.
