Environmental Cleanup

The goal of environmental remediation projects is to eliminate threats to human health and the environment from legacy contamination. These actions are regulated by the Washington State Department of Ecology pursuant to the Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA). Below are links to sites within the City in which the City is involved with the remediation.

Historic municipal landfill site located on Bellingham Bay

Central WaterfrontCentral Waterfront Site
Combination of four sites contaminated by various industrial uses located on 55 acres on the downtown waterfront

Whatcom WaterwayWhatcom Waterway Site
Contamination from operations at the former Georgia-Pacific pulp and paper plant in Bellingham Bay
