New updates to City public website

Better mobile access

November 13, 2015 - by Vanessa Blackburn

Welcome to the City of Bellingham’s new and improved website! This redesigned site is more visual and mobile friendly to provide you with the best service.

The driving force for the site redesign was to make it more mobile friendly. More than 30 percent of our website users are now using their smart phones or tablets to view the site, and we want to be responsive to that growing trend. The site will adjust to whatever device you are using, whether it’s a smartphone, tablet or ultra-wide screen.

Another exciting aspect of the new site is more visual content. We have hundreds of new photos on the site – many of them showcasing local photographers from our Essence of Bellingham contest. Whether it’s the majestic home page photo taken by local legend Tore Ofteness or AJ Barse’s iconic winning shot from last year’s Essence of Bellingham Photo Competition, you’ll find hundreds of gorgeous images throughout the site.

In keeping with the goal of adding greater value to the public, our new website also has a better news release system with the ability to subscribe and include visual content, more robust search tools, and new and improved content in some areas, especially in the Police Department. While we’ve improved the usability of the site, our customers and users still have access to the content they rely on. The City of Bellingham values and believes in the spirit of open government, and that includes making vast amounts of data available to the citizens of Bellingham. From exploring our historic districts, to diving into City Council documents, there’s a wide range of information online for you to explore.

We hope you enjoy the new site!
