Council reviews draft shoreline regulations

Lake Whatcom shoreline by Brian Pitzen

The Bellingham City Council has scheduled two work sessions to review in detail certain portions of the draft Shoreline Master Program.

The Shoreline Master Program is the regulatory and policy framework that guides development in the City's significant shoreline areas, including Lake Whatcom, major creeks and the waterfront.

The Council will review waterfront-related issues, including a proposal by the Port of Bellingham for shorelines within the Waterfront District, at a work session scheduled for September 14.

Lake Whatcom shoreline issues will be reviewed in depth at a work session scheduled for October 5.

Both work sessions will be held during the City Council's afternoon committee meetings. Check the Council's detailed agenda for the exact time of each work session.

More details about the Shoreline Master Program, including the full draft document, can be found at http://www.cob.org/services/neighborhoods/community-planning/environmental/shoreline-program.aspx

Copies of the document are available at the Planning & Community Development office in City Hall at 210 Lottie Street for a fee of $12.

Comments on the document should be sent to smpupdate@cob.org.  For more information, contact Planning and Community Development.
