Public Works Advisory Board

Purpose

The Board shall advise the Mayor and City Council regarding Public Works development standards and policies relating to public and private construction.

Typical Decisions

The Board may provide input into the development of Capital Improvement Plans and advise on City plans for street, water, sewer and stormwater management. The Board may be requested by the Mayor or Council to review capital construction projects and advise concerning the Public Works Department consultant qualification and selection process. The Board may provide assistance and recommendation on technical matters relating to Public Works decisions and issues involving City of Bellingham development standards or construction practices.

Time Requirements

Meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month, except following a Monday holiday, at 3:00 p.m. in the Mayor's Board Room at City Hall. Meetings last approximately one and one-half hours.

Membership

The Board consists of seven members appointed by the Mayor with the confirmation of City Council. The initial term of four of the Board's initial members shall be for two years, and the term of the three other initial members shall be four years. Subsequent terms of all members shall be for four years. Initial members serving for two years may be reappointed by the Mayor. Six members shall be selected from the following professions: Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, Land Surveying, General Contracting, and Home Building. In addition, one at-large member who has working knowledge of public works, design, building and construction shall be selected.
