TBD Yew Street Pedestrian Safety Improvement

Project Overview: ES-0454

New 5-foot wide sidewalks will be constructed on the west side of Yew Street from Alabama to Texas. ADA curb ramps will be installed at Yew/Alabama and Yew/Texas intersections. Marked crosswalks with ADA ramps and advance warning signs will be installed across Yew at Texas to connect existing sidewalks along Texas, and across Texas on the east side of Yew to connect new sidewalk with existing sidewalk further south on Yew. The new sidewalk and ADA ramps will provide a safe walking route and better pedestrian connectivity to Roosevelt Elementary School, Kindercare Daycare, Texas Street Neighborhood Commercial Center, Hoagland Pharmacy, a Bellingham Housing Authority development, and the surrounding residential areas of the Roosevelt Neighborhood.

Funding for this project comes from the Transportation Benefit District (TDB).

Status - March 2012

Accomplishments: 60 percent design completed and routed internally for comment. Stormwater design started
