TBD-Funded Non-motorized Intersection Projects
Project Overview
To provide improved safety for pedestrians at key intersections in the City,
the Transportation Benefit District board approved funding for improvements
at six intersections.
- N. Samish Way at Abbott and Consolidation
streets(ES-449): The project will enhance pedestrian and
bicycle safety by constructing pedestrian-actuated flashing crosswalks
with center median/pedestrian refuges at two intersections along Samish
Way: Abbott and Consolidation. The project also includes an educational
campaign that targets residents and businesses about pedestrian and
bicycle safety at crosswalks as well as enforcement by police for speed
and crosswalk compliance.
- State/Maple streets Intersection
(ES-458): Project
includes pedestrian crossing improvements including bulbouts, crosswalks
and improved signage at the intersection.
- James Street/Illinois streets Intersection
(ES-460):
Project improves pedestrian safety by installing a pedestrian-actuated
flashing crosswalk at this intersection.
- Woburn Street/Rimland Drive Intersection
(ES-463): TBD funds
are being leveraged with private funding to complete a fully automated
traffic signal at this intersection. The City completed new curb ramps
and resurfaced the adjacent street in 2011.
- Alabama/St. Paul streets Intersection
(ES-463): The project
will enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety by constructing a
pedestrian-actuated flashing crosswalks and new curb ramps at this
intersection.
- Northwest /Alderwood avenues Intersection
(ES-447): The
project will enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety by constructing
pedestrian-actuated flashing crosswalks at this location.
Status - April 2012
Northwest/Alderwood, State/Maple and Illinois/James Accomplishments:
Survey and base mapping are complete.
Next Milestones: Complete 60% design and route internally for
comment.
N. Samish at Abbott and Woburn/Rimland Accomplishments:
Authorized contract for survey and base mapping.
Next Milestones: Begin design.
Alabama and St. Paul Accomplishments: Construction
complete. Signal energized.
