The 2010-2011 Sewer Replacement project consists primarily of replacing manholes and restoring sanitary sewer lines to near new condition through the use of trenchless technology. The project involves replacement of approximately 880 lineal feet in three existing sanitary sewer crossings beneath the I-5 corridor located near McLeod Street, Byron Avenue and Consolidation Avenue. The existing piping is contained within steel casings and will be removed and replaced without disturbing the interstate highway.
Also included is replacement of 2200 lineal feet of existing sanitary sewer line located north of Consolidation Avenue. A trenchless method, called pipe bursting, will pull a new pipe of the same diameter through the existing pipe, shattering it, and replacing the previous pipe.
Accomplishments: Correlated work on Byron casing with WSDOT closure of I-5 ramp. Byron complete. Tied in main so that flow can be diverted to new main for construction of Consolidation crossing.
Next Milestones: Construction of Consolidation crossing.
