This
project widens Sunset Drive from 2 lane to 5 lanes, including a two-way,
left-turn lane; two bike lanes; sidewalks on both sides; and bus pullouts.
The project is roughly 0.8 miles long and extends from Woburn Street to
McLeod Road. These improvements are the second and final phase of widening
within the city limits. The project will relieve congestion and provide
facilities for alternative modes of transportation. Funding for the project
comes from the Federal Highway Administration, Transportation Improvements
Board, Washington Department of Transportation, and Bellingham Street fund.
Although the Sunset Drive Reconstruction is designated as a street project,
both storm and water projects are also involved. Two stormwater systems are
being installed to insure proper drainage and to collect and treat runoff.
Reconstruction will expose the old waterline allowing the city to replace
the old main with a new more efficient line.
Accomplishments: Project is substantially complete. Final inspection held 9/24/09
Next Milestones: punch list and close-out.
