Downtown Street Power (PSE) Undergrounding - Preconstruction PhotoThis is a cooperative project where Puget Sound Energy (PSE) rebuilds 4kv electric distribution as 12.47kv underground system and the City of Bellingham provides trenching and alley restoration. Three alleys are included in the overall plan. The first phase is between Cornwall Avenue and Railroad Avenue, from York Street to Maple Street. The purpose of this project is to help beautify downtown and provide increased safety by undergrounding the overhead power lines.

Status - October 2009

Accomplishments: PSE is negotiating easements with owners on block between Maple St. and Chestnut St. This is taking longer than expected to finalize. City crews to do excavation for PSE.

Next Milestones: Final plans to Public Works Operations for November work.
