Bay to Baker Trail

Description

The Parks and Recreation Department is working on acquiring land along the abandoned railway between Eldridge Avenue and Hannegan Road and along the “Sunset Pond corridor” between James St. and Sunset Drive. The property acquisition is for trail right-of-way and future trail and park amenity construction. This acquisition and development will assist protection of wildlife and fisheries habitat through purchase of passive open space along the creek.

The Parks Department is coordinating with the City of Bellingham Public Works Department on related projects in the Squalicum Greenway corridor. Design consideration for the Squalicum Creek re-route, James Street arterial improvements, and Orchard Drive extension are included in this coordination effort.

Funding

Greenway Levy III

Status

30% design and permitting for portions of the trail between Meridian Street and Hannegan Road is currently underway.
