Gateway Pacific Terminal Regulatory Review

The Gateway Pacific Terminal was proposed to be located at Cherry Point north of Bellingham in unincorporated Whatcom County.

The regulatory review process was led by Whatcom County, the state Department of Ecology and the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

The Gateway Pacific Terminal was proposed as a multi-modal, deep-water terminal to provide storage and handling for the export and import of up to 54 million metric tons per year of dry bulk commodities.  Application materials for the proposed terminal described operations that included 18 additional individual train trips (nine round trips) per day traveling through Bellingham.

In February 2017 Pacific International Terminals sent a letter to Whatcom County officials announcing it was stopping the environmental impact statement process for the terminal and withdrawing its applications.
