Hundreds of community members honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service, social justice and equal opportunity on Jan. 20, 2014 at events and service projects organized by the Whatcom Volunteer Center, Whatcom Peace and Justice Center, the City of Bellingham, social services providers, local college campuses and others.
Volunteers and peace and justice marchers were treated to a free breakfast to kick off the day’s activities. The breakfast included a performance by the Kulshan Chorus and welcoming remarks by Bellingham Mayor Kelli Linville and Congresswoman Suzan DelBene.
“We hope this day of events and service will raise awareness and inspire action and volunteerism to help people in need in our community,” Dan Hammill, with the Whatcom Volunteer Center, said.
