The Bellingham Arts Commission has issued an exciting call for art for a maximum of twelve outdoor sculptures to be installed at key pedestrian locations in downtown Bellingham. The theme of this year’s show is Nature in the Balance: Artists Interpreting Climate Change and the Environment Through Sculpture. This show is to run concurrently with the Whatcom Museum’s upcoming exhibitions, Nature in the Balance and Vanishing Ice: Alpine and Polar Landscapes in Art 1775-2012. Artists are encouraged to submit sculpture that highlights the themes of these shows.
The final sculptures are expected to be installed mid-summer 2013, and will remain in their designated location until summer 2014.
Potential installation sites are near the Whatcom Museum's Old City Hall Building, the Bellingham Public Library, the Lightcatcher Building, the Mount Baker Theatre, City Hall as well as Bay, Champion, and Grand streets.
Completed entries are due on May 24, 2013 by 5:00 p.m. All entries should be submitted to the Planning & Community Development office in City Hall. See the City's website for further details and entry requirements.
