The environmental review process for the proposed Gateway Pacific Terminal is now underway, with the public invited to weigh in on the scope of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS): what should be covered in the document and in what detail.

Scoping comments will be accepted until January 21, 2013, with many opportunities available for people to gather information and provide comments, including by attending meetings hosted around the region and submitting comments online. More information about the process and how to participate in it can be found at

Once a draft EIS is published, the public will also be invited to review and comment on the document and participate in public meetings.

The regulatory review process is being led by Whatcom County, the state Department of Ecology and the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

City of Bellingham officials continue to gather information and weigh in, as well as help make sure residents of the City have the information they need to participate. More information about the City’s role in the project and links to other information, can be found on the Gateway Pacific Terminal regulatory review project page.
