Bellingham residents are invited to "rock your parks" this month, as the City of Bellingham helps raise awareness about parks, recreation and conservation and their importance to supporting healthy, vital communities.
On Monday, June 20, Bellingham City Council passed a resolution recognizing July 2011 as Parks and Recreation Month. Residents are encouraged to get out and show how parks and recreation make their lives extraordinary.
Each July since 1985, America has celebrated Park and Recreation Month as designated by the U.S. House of Representatives. Parks and Recreation Month is a program of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and the America’s Backyard initiative. The goal is to raise awareness of the vital impact that parks, recreation and conservation have on communities across the United States. This year’s theme is "Rock Your Park!"
Bellingham Parks & Recreation Department offers a variety of recreational opportunities through programs, parks and trails. Check out the Rock Your Park Calendar for examples of what you can do with your family in Bellingham’s parks to make the most of the month of July. To find out more about Bellingham Parks & Recreation Department’s services, please visit the Recreation Services webpage. In addition to participating locally, Bellingham residents are invited to “Take the Five in July Park Pledge” through NRPA for the opportunity to win an iPod touch!
