Live meetings on BTV10 improve access to government

Council President Barbara Ryan

Committee meetings of the Bellingham City Council now air live as they occur on BTV10, and subsequently are posted on the city's website.

Bellingham City Council President Barbara Ryan said the committee meetings, typically held on Monday afternoons, provide background information about city services, issues and decisions. She said the committee meetings host rich discussions among Council members, the Mayor, city staff and others, and set the stage for council decisions voted on during regular council meetings.

"Making these meetings and the information contained in them more accessible to the public helps achieve Council's goals to provide open, transparent government and improved communications about City services," Ryan said.

Ryan said providing timely, accurate information about city projects and activities has been a priority for the City Council for many years.  BTV10 is one of the City's primary methods of communicating with citizens, she said, reaching more than 25,000 homes in Bellingham.

BTV10, the city's government and educational access television station, can be found on Comcast cable channel 10.

The Monday afternoon committee meetings, and the Monday evening regular meetings that follow them, began airing live on BTV10 on March 3.  These meetings repeat several times each week and are posted to view on the city website, according to the schedule below:
