Mayor Douglas informed city Department Heads on Thursday Nov. 9 of his decision to stop implementation of the new city logo.
"I have a very short time in which to make progress on my priorities, and I prefer to leave the logo question to the new elected Mayor," he said. "Meanwhile, we are directing resources toward top priorities. We are not spending any more money, staff time or community energy on this topic when we have so many more important issues to address."
He said the cost to move forward slowly is more than if we simply stop,
and take a small step back to the old logo.
"I greatly respect Mayor Mark’s 'one city' philosophy, which formed the
basis for the logo project," he said. "I want to underscore that this city
must operate as one team, and people will get that point when they see us in
action. It is my expectation that we work collaboratively, and in this way
we also honor Mark’s service."
He added that his decision in no way is a statement about how the logo looks or was developed, and does not evaluate the process or the staff and citizen effort involved.
"I simply have more important priorities upon which to focus our time and resources, and prefer to leave this question entirely to the next Mayor," he said.
