Bellingham City Council member Terry Bornemann is the chair of the Parking-Capital Projects-Real Estate Committee currently serves as Council President Pro Tem. Council member Bornemann is also a member of Finance and Personnel Committee, and Parks & Recreation Committee. In addition to his committee work, Council member Bornemann has several other council assignments including, serving on the Council of Governments, the Parks & Recreation Board, and the Port Marina Advisory Board.
Council member Bornemann moved to Bellingham in 1986 because of its wonderful environmental qualities, its great schools, and its wonderful diversity of active, involved citizens. He became involved in neighborhood issues dealing with the rapid growth occurring in our city. He decided to run for City Council with a commitment to the long range planning and policy setting necessary to protect the integrity of the neighborhoods, diversify the local economy and to preserve the environmental quality of Bellingham. Since this time Council member Bornemann has focused on certain areas of interest such as the protection of the Lake Whatcom Reservoir, the redevelopment of a healthy and vibrant downtown, and maintaining and improving civil rights in the community. Preserving the quality of life that is so abundant in Bellingham drives Council member Bornemann’s work on these issues.
Council member Bornemann has worked on several projects that have meant a lot to this community. Some of these include Visions for Bellingham, the Downtown Development Workshop, WWU Institutional Master Plan, the WWU Transportation Management Master Plan and the Bellingham Substance Abuse Prevention Committee. Council member Bornemann served as a member of the Sehome Neighborhood Steering Committee, which worked on developing the Sehome Neighborhood Association. He currently serves on the Northwest Youth Services board of directors. These projects highlight aspects of Bellingham such as education and livable neighborhoods that Council member Bornemann strives to improve.
Council member Bornemann is serving his current term through 2003. He spends his extra time in Bellingham’s beautiful outdoors, hiking, skiing, and fishing. He also enjoys painting and participating in youth sports with his two children.
