JOB SUMMARY:

The Bellingham Public Library hires Library Pages throughout the year. These positions are temporary labor, working approximately 12-20 hours/week, depending upon employee availability. Library Pages perform very basic duties including but not limited to: unloading book return bins, checking in materials, returning materials to proper location, shifting materials on shelves, etc. The position reports to the Circulation Librarian, but is supervised and receives daily assignments from the Library Page Coordinator. There are no benefits accompanying this position.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Reading ability sufficient to read and understand Library policies, procedures and directions.
  • Ability and willingness to work various shifts, depending upon Library needs.
  • Must be at least 16 years old.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: (knowledge, skills and abilities)

  • Ability to acquire knowledge of the Dewey classification system and basic library practices.
  • Ability to file alphabetically and numerically.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to use a computer terminal.
  • Ability to recognize the needs for shelving changes.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
  • Physical ability to reach shelves from six feet high to floor level.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Stand for up to three hours.
  • Push a loaded book cart.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to perform required work.
  • Hearing sufficient to respond to call-bell.
  • Fine finger dexterity to manipulate computer keyboard.
