What are Downtown Improvement Gardens and Why?
The Downtown Improvement Gardens (DIG) Project intends to improve Whatcom Creek water quality by installing 36 raingardens in strategic locations downtown. The raingardens will help treat and infiltrate stormwater from over 90 urban acres that currently flows untreated into Whatcom Creek. DIG also creates attractive urban green spaces downtown, can enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety, and helps protect sewer ratepayers' investments in the piped collection system.
